Introduction to ALEP Standards
The American Logistics Education Partnership (ALEP) is a set of quality standards and development framework to achieve a world-class logistics and supply chain management education program. The ALEP was developed by Sino-American Logistics Council (SALC) in collaboration with industry professionals, and educators at leading North American and Chinese logistics & supply chain programs. The program is based on internationally recognized standards, specifically tailored for university degree programs and college diploma programs.
SALC recognizes degree and diploma granting education programs that meets the ALEP Standards for Approval. The main difference between approval and accreditation is the scope. Accreditation is more comprehensive than approval in that it deals with an organization’s vision and mission, strategy, governance structure, financial resources, student service, alumni and external relations, in addition to student learning. Approval, on the other hand, deals primarily with program content, instructional quality, and supporting learning resources.
The ALEP recognition is granted to programs that meets expectations for faculty qualification, curricular contents, instructional quality, industry cooperation and learning resources.
- Faculty requirements – Program faculty are qualified and participate in continuous learning and faculty development programs.
- Curriculum requirements – The program covers general skills and business knowledge areas and core logistics and supply chain areas, provides educational resources such as internships, career advising, and other co-curricular activities, and student learning is measured.
- Industry cooperation requirements – The program is actively engaged with industry to ensure program and course content meets real world needs, provides students interaction with industry, and faculty is up-to-date on industry best practices
- Course requirements – Course texts, syllabus, and case studies are up-to-date and meet international standards.
The standards also includes a strong emphasis on English language proficiency, faculty development, teaching reform, innovation in curriculum design, and international cooperation.
To earn the ALEP recognition, the program must meet all ALEP Standards for Approval. To maintain ALEP recognition, the school must provide evidence of continued compliance with the Standards for Approval.
